Emotion regulation and romantic partners’ relationship satisfaction

Studies investigating the effects of emotion regulation on romantic partners’ relationship satisfaction (RS) found that proneness to use cognitive reappraisal exerts positive, whereas expressive suppression negative both one’s own and partner’s satisfaction. However, no studies explored partner reported two strategies RS, which might allow exclusion method-related explanations previous findings offer new insights into mechanisms involved. We tested hypotheses about RS a sample 205 couples by using round-robin design actor-partner interdependence modelling (APIM). Although were relatively small, they still in line with assumptions has positive intra- interpersonal can be generalized across self- reports certain extent, are somewhat stronger women.
